Near the end of August, Greg was a trooper to let me head to Seattle for a workshop. I cannot remember the last time I've been the one traveling away from home for 4+ days. I flew out on Wednesday afternoon, August 21st. Arrived at the Edgewater Hotel in Seattle, gorgeous! It's right on Pier 67 with amazing views of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, and the city itself.
That night, even though I might have preferred to just head to bed, I jumped in a cab and ventured out to Delancey. There is a food writer and blogger that I follow, Molly Wizenberg, and I was dying to visit her (technically her husband, Brandon's) restaurant. Man, was I glad I did! It was outstanding, and I got to sit at the bar and watch all the pizza-making action! Friends of Brandon and Molly's came in and also sat at the bar, and I totally felt like a stalker...watching and listening them catch up with Brandon and Molly. So fun! Back to the food, I had an amazing tomato, basil, and feta salad, and then a half-pepperoni and half-sausage pizza with arugula. And of course a glass of red wine, and of course a bittersweet chocolate chip cookie with gray salt for dessert. I would consider moving to Seattle just to be close to this place...yum!
I had Thursday morning all to myself before the workshop started that afternoon, so I headed to Pike Place Market. First stop, the original Starbucks for a Pike Place mug and a latte. Then it was just a leisurely stroll through the market...gorgeous flowers, beautiful produce, and of course, the flying fish! I also found a fantastic specialty food and wine shop that I wandered through for quite some time. Have I mentioned yet that I would move to this city? :)
From the market, I walked through Seattle towards, what else, the Space Needle. I didn't think I would go up, just take some pictures and then be on my way. Alas, you cannot come all the way to Seattle and just snap a few pix from below of the city's most famous attraction, so I bought my ticket and headed up for the views.
With my feet back on solid ground, I snapped a few more pictures near the Needle. These giant sunflowers are made of glass, as the Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition is near the Space Needle. (If you don't know much about Dale Chihuly and his art, check him out...it's beautiful!) I didn't realize this exhibit was here, and I desperately wanted to see it, but was running out of time before I needed to get to my workshop. I'll have to add it to the list of things I want to do when I bring Greg to Seattle... :)
I had one more stop before I walked back to my hotel...the Olympic Sculpture Park. Cool art right by the water, and it sounds like there are lots of fun activities to do here all summer long...dramas, dancing, yoga, live art, and more.
Skipping ahead to Friday evening. I treated myself to another fantastic dinner at Anthony's Bell Street Diner on Pier 66. A beautiful, cool evening sitting outside with a good book, a chilled glass of Riesling, and salmon tacos. Simply marvelous.
And now, skipping ahead to Sunday afternoon and saying goodbye. This was my home away from home for 4 days...The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. And these folks are my dear new friends. A rich and beautiful time away...thank you Seattle!
