Sunshine Skiing

Don't hate me...a bit more skiing.  On March 8 and 9, we drove out to Banff for our first family visit to Sunshine Village.  Sunshine Village sits high on the Continental Divide in the heart of Banff National Park.  It is possible to ski in two provinces - Alberta and British Columbia - in one run!  Cool, eh?

The kids enjoyed the 20 minute gondola ride up to the lodge and "base camp" where the lifts and child care are located.  We dropped Nathalie off for a morning of "ski school" fun, and then enjoyed a few runs with Ben before sending him off on his lesson.  Conditions were chilly and snowy, where the wind was really throwing the snow in your face as we rode the lifts.  Not sure that Ben was super excited about it, until we got on the hills and he went zooming down.  He had a good lesson while Greg and I tried out some nice long green runs.  We even got lost...we started on a green run and then all of a sudden our choices were two black diamonds.  Yikes!  We searched and searched (as in popped off our skis and "snowshoed" through deep snow) and finally found a green circle to finish off the run.  Whew!  We picked up the kids, enjoyed some lunch, and rode the gondola back down to the car.  A fun day of spring skiing, and I'm sure we'll be back to Sunshine in the years to come!
