Let's Celebrate!

Let the celebrating begin!  On Saturday, January 26th, Greg turned 36!  We shared gifts right away, because the kids and I couldn't wait any longer to surprise Greg with his present...a bobsleigh ride at Canada Olympic Park!!  He was so surprised and excited!  First though, we needed to enjoy some breakfast...

Our dear friends, Betsy and Marc, had found the most fantastic Christmas present for us.  They were looking for a restaurant in Calgary to give a gift certificate to and stumbled upon the Pfantastic Pannenkoek Haus!  It was our two ex-pat worlds colliding and could not have been more perfect!  So, what better way to start off some birthday fun than Dutch pancakes??  First things first, the coffee came with little windmill cookies.  Score one for the Pannenkoek Haus!  (Not that Greg or I got to enjoy them...quickly snagged by the two wee ones).  Next, they had authentic stroop (Dutch syrup) on the tables...score one more!  Lastly, and most important, the pancakes were amazing!!  The owner had gone to the Netherlands to learn to make them, and she clearly studied well.  We will be back for sure...and can't wait to bring Betsy and Marc as a gigantic thank you when they visit!  :)

Later that afternoon, we headed for Canada Olympic Park for Greg's bobsleigh ride.  You may remember that the Jamaican bobsled team made its debut at the 1988 Winter Olympics hosted in Calgary.  What fun to think Greg would be rocketing down the same course as real Olympians had done!  To be clear, Greg would not be driving the sled...it was piloted by a professional driver.  We dropped him off at the top of the hill for some "training" while we headed back down to the Finish.  It was so fun watching all those bobsleds fly in.  Finally, it was Greg's turn!  His sled finished in 61.38 seconds with a top speed of 122.74 kilometers per hour (a little over 76 miles per hour for all those Americans reading).  :)  He loved it!!  He said he was going to have to add it to his bucket list just so he could cross it off!  Definitely don't meet too many people that can say they've been down an Olympic bobsleigh course!  Awesome way to remember turning 36!

To finish up a great day, we enjoyed Greg's favorites...lasagna and red velvet cupcakes.  Happy Birthday to you, and here's to many more!!!

The next day brought more birthday fun for Greg and Ben.  Ben was invited to his new friend Reid's birthday party at Laser Quest.  I'm not sure who had more fun...Ben or Dad!  :)  So nice of Reid to invite Ben after just a few weeks of school together.

Last thing to celebrate...it's potty time!  Highchair...gone.  Crib...gone.  Diapers...can't wait til you're gone!  We've had a few successes so far, and getting #2 in the potty was cause for a big gift...a new baby.  Nathalie was in love, so let's just hope it works as motivation to keep it up!  Wish us luck and lots of patience!
