On Sunday, September 7th, we enjoyed an afternoon bike ride in the park and ice cream afterwards. The temperature was 82 degrees. The very next day, I was sending the kids to school in snow boots and winter coats, as the high temp was 30 degrees and we were expecting snow! And boy, did we get snow!! About 3 inches fell on Monday, and Ben was thrilled! I, on the other hand, wasn't sure whether I should laugh or cry...
But wait, it didn't stop with only 3 inches. Over the next few days, there was a steady stream of snow that covered the city. In total, I think we got almost a foot of snow - in September!! Apparently, we were skipping right from the lawn mower to the snow shovels. What happened to raking autumn leaves??
As of Wednesday morning, the snow was still falling. It was really wet and heavy and causing lots of damage to trees all over the city. Apparently, it was causing damage to power lines as well because we lost power early that morning. As we were trying to get ready for our day (in the dark), I got a call from Nathalie's preschool teacher that class was cancelled. The building had lost power, and the parking lot was covered in huge fallen branches. A snow day in September? Now we have reached total insanity. :) We did get Ben off to school, and then Nathalie and I spent the morning cuddling on the couch, reading stories, and playing dollhouse. Poor thing wasn't really understanding why we couldn't watch a movie, and I was also a bit disappointed that I couldn't make a cup of coffee or even a pot of tea (electric stove). Ugh! I did catch Nathalie doing a little cleaning...maybe this "no electricity" is a good thing? :) Power was restored around 1 p.m., and the snow finally did come to an end later that evening. What an unexpected week it's been! It's not really the snow that I was mad at, it was the idea of skipping right past my favorite season. I'm not ready for snowflakes and hot chocolate just yet...first I need some falling leaves and apple cider! Happy Fall!!
