March 3rd - A snowy Calgary Sunday. We headed to church as usual and got about 5 km away when we saw police cars blocking the road. ?? We are not sure if there was an accident or just too much drifting snow. We took the exit and tried a different route via side streets. Also blocked. So, we headed home. Bummer...we were so brave to venture out. But, we made it home safely, I baked up some apple scones and put on some fresh coffee, and we vegged on the couch together. Ben and his trains even took a little snooze together. (Seriously...notice that all his trains are laying on their sides. Ha!). Needless to say, Ben's Sunday ski lessons were cancelled... :(
Friday night is 'movie night' at the Zabikows. In the middle of our movie on March 1st, Ben tells us that his tooth feels "a little wiggly". Greg and I both take a wiggle...it is not a little wiggly, it is a LOT wiggly! Couldn't believe he hadn't mentioned it sooner! So, it didn't surprise us that a short 4 days later, on Tuesday, March 5th, our little guy lost his first tooth! He was so excited! Our 'sweet pea' is growing up too fast!! Naturally, the tooth fairy came and brought a "toonie" ($2 CAD coin). Ben is all set now to check out the dollar store and see what his loot can buy. :) (Although, I should mention that he woke up in the middle of the night screaming. I go to his room, and he is sitting on the floor and has pulled out the vent. He is looking inside screaming and crying that he can't find his tooth or his present. I assure him neither one are in the vent, and we close it back up. We find the $$ that the tooth fairy left, and all is right with the world. Poor guy...not sure why he thought she would be traveling through the vents, but I guess it makes sense since the windows and doors are closed.) :)
Adjusting to daylight savings time is hard...springing forward got to her! So sweet. It is not light now until almost 8 a.m. again, but it is light in the evening until at least 8 p.m. Oh my, what will the summer bring? Bedtime at 10 p.m.???
Mommy and Nathalie came to watch Ben ski on March 10th. Awesome!!!
Greg took some ski lessons as well - a "ski in 3" program. Lessons on Friday night, Saturday morning, and Sunday morning, all in the same weekend. He loved it, and it was fun to be able to compare what he was learning to what I had been learning. We both made it to the green hill before we "graduated", and the green hill at COP (Canada Olympic Park) is a hard one (almost a blue)! No wonder it's so steep and scary! :) Here is picture of me with my gals on our last night...hope to see them next fall for level 2!
Speaking of graduations, Nathalie had her last gymnastics class for this session on March 21st. Siblings, grandparents, etc. were welcome to attend, and since this was Ben's first day of spring break, he joined us. Oh my...trying to chase 2 kiddos around a gym was exhausting...I got a great workout!! Here are my two monkeys "monkeying" around. I love the last photo of Nathalie intently watching along as we sang "slippery fish". We're all signed up for another session starting in late April...wouldn't miss seeing our friends and getting out some winter wiggles! Although, I hope it's starting to feel like spring by then!
